Here are 3 examples that were handed in today, Sept. 25. Beautiful workmanship! Please take care of your work; respect the materials!!
1. Elements of Art Booklets:
Fold a long piece of paper into 6 equal parts.
Using magazines, find images that show examples of line, colour, space, texture, shape and form and cut them out.
Collage each panel of your accordion book with at least 3 images that represent an element.
Each panel of your 6 part accordion book should represent one of the elements listed. For an added challenge, the booklet must have unity (one of the principles of design).
2. Blind Contour Drawing
In class, we made blind contour drawings of hands, faces and objects. Those drawings will be the basis of a composition that employs 2 of the principles of design. You may add more blind contour drawings, colour your composition. You will work in groups of 3 to figure out how to best compose your finished piece. Again, there is an emphasis on craftsmanship; using materials with respect and integrity.
3. An Investigation into Negative Space and Real Space....
Really, this project should be called an experimentation into merging negative space with maps, so you choose. You must dig back as far as you can into your roots, your lineage. If that is one generation or 10, it doesn't matter. From your research and conversations about your family, choose an object that would best represent you. We will be working with this object by drawing it and abstracting it to find negative shapes within it's form.
STOP MOTION: CREATE/DESTROY.....
Stop Motion Animation:
Length: You are responsible for creating a stop motion animation that plays at between 10 -30 frames per second, or any variation in between to achieve your effect. The final cut needs to be minimum 1 minute long, maximum...... no max. (within reason, keep us interested.) You can find your frame rate within the settings of your editing software. You must use a tripod, constructed or ready-made, so that your set remains constant while your subjects move.
Content: Your animation must have a storyline, narrative. Even if it is instructive, historical or investigative, it needs to engage your audience through story.
Sound: Probably the most important part of this piece is the sound you choose to include. Obviously the video track will be silent so it is totally up to you to create the soundscape. Dialogue? Music? Ambient sound effects and/or background sound. *** Please make sure you use license free music in your film, otherwise you may need to choose an alternative pre-showing (I can't show film with music that isn't licensed.) Try building your own music (garage band.....).
