Stop Motion Animation:
Length: You are responsible for creating a stop motion animation that plays at between 10 -30 frames per second, or any variation in between to achieve your effect. The final cut needs to be minimum 1 minute long, maximum...... no max. (within reason, keep us interested.) You can find your frame rate within the settings of your editing software. You must use a tripod, constructed or ready-made, so that your set remains constant while your subjects move.
Content: Your animation must have a storyline, narrative. Even if it is instructive, historical or investigative, it needs to engage your audience through story.
Sound: Probably the most important part of this piece is the sound you choose to include. Obviously the video track will be silent so it is totally up to you to create the soundscape. Dialogue? Music? Ambient sound effects and/or background sound. *** Please make sure you use license free music in your film, otherwise you may need to choose an alternative pre-showing (I can't show film with music that isn't licensed.) Try building your own music (garage band.....).
Hyper Genre
Create a short film (between 3-5 minutes) that explores a certain genre in an intensely, over the top representation of that genre; western, horror, comedy, sci-fi, romance, documentary......
Consider: What defines a genre? What are the key elements that must be present in a ___(genre)_______________.
Example: Horror
- gratuitous blood
-the scream
- dark passages/ extreme lighting effects
-tinkling haunting music/ suspense filled
- POV: evil one's perspective
- Foreshadowing/ anticipation: Put the viewer in the position of trying to figure out the next move....
This assignment is NARRITIVE. You must tell a story within your hyper genre.
This is heavy on the soundscape; the comedy must have a laugh track. The horror must have the quintessential scream. Rom Com must have sappy music dripping off of it. etc. etc.
Colour will also play an important role in how we view and engage with your film. Black and white? Colour Correct? Desatur
